About me

The founder, Chris Scheper, is a principal engineer, creative entrepreneur and artist. He grew up in the Halen area near Assen, Drenthe, The Netherlands and enjoys art, design, sports, cars, reading, music, horticulture and travelling. His career path has taken him from architectural design to engineering and from photography to art and entrepreneurship. When he was 8 years old,  he wanted to be a farmer. When he drove frequently in his parent’s car at 12, a dream of becoming a racing driver was born. At 18, he was considering a career as a pilot. But at 23, he became an engineer and at 30, he started as an entrepreneur. Since then, his ambitions have continued to grow at the same pace.

His drawing skills did not go unnoticed in the classroom at a young age, and handicrafts have laid a golden foundation here. Once, he participated in a darkroom workshop at primary school. But after his sister bought her first digital photo camera in 2000 during a holiday in the US, he was immediately keen on this new, exciting, innovative technology. During these holidays, they usually played the leading role in front of their father’s film camera. His mother is an entrepreneur too, and during her leisure time, she painted landscapes and still lives, taking courses by familiar painters. His artistic sensibilities were probably accelerated because he was also regularly found in the creative atmosphere of his uncle’s art, photography and motorcycle studio. At a very young age, these unconscious sensory impressions gave him inspiration and impulses about art, design, photography and technologies.

Knowing, Doing, Being, and transforming this world into a better place.

During his secondary school and university time, he found side jobs in agriculture. Because he was inspired by nature and technology, he learned and practised new skills with (innovative) equipment. The agricultural world still holds his interest today. The equipment experiences initially brought him to the design and construction of gardens. This was not without success, and he got increasing requests from customers. Besides studying mechanical engineering at university, he became a designer and an entrepreneur. The studies enhanced most skills like design, technology, engineering, and entrepreneurship, but art unfortunately stayed underexposed during these studies. After his graduation, his parents surprised him with a Nikon D60 photo camera. Soon, he took different courses, shared knowledge, attended seminars with renowned photographers, read many books/magazines (hard copies, please), and visited exhibitions and galleries worldwide. During travels with his wife, there stayed a returning incentive for shaping the first contours of his studio.

Since his studies and early experiences, he has developed a great interest in photography and design and discovered a recognisable style. Photography has become a way of examining the world and storing visual impressions for future use. Our cameras are still an essential supplement to pen, paper or computers. At the beginning of his professional career, connecting joint areas of interest didn’t look feasible. But today, the boundaries have become increasingly blurry. An overlap between identities and correlations helps us better understand today’s world. Therefore, his design and photography activities were only known to a select group of enthusiastic customers and friends for a long time. Since the launch of his engineering company Scheper.Co (2014), which is renowned for its innovative products and realised projects. We think the art of technology provides us with new challenges, experiences and inspirations. Unnoticed, there are many correlations to offer that unique fingerprint for creations. We have a never-ending flow of ideas and believe art, technologies, and design can be inextricably connected.

“With Scheper Studio, I have united contemporary arts and a platform gallery in a distinctive direction. I like to discover and create the extraordinary. We also offer an opportunity to collaborate with other artists and products, share selective collections, and empower design projects through composed spatial art, also known as “a total work of art” (Gesamtkunstwerke). We have already been active for over two decades and took a long shot to build this brand. Driven by this intense passion and interest, I needed to launch Scheper Studio in 2024”.
